BROOKSVILLE, Florida, April 3, 2023 – The skilled and compassionate hands of physicians, nurses and other team members of Bravera Health Brooksville and Spring Hill support the health and well-being of patients who turn to us for expert care. Beyond providing clinical care, the Bravera Health system is a cornerstone of our community and a major contributor to the economic health of the Hernando County as a major employer and tax-payer and through applying resources to expand and enhance the medical services available close to home. The overall impact is significant and totaled more than $206 million in 2022.
Care was provided at more than 189,000 patient encounters, including more than 49,000 emergency department visits, more than 8,900 inpatient admissions and more than 10,000 surgeries. Over 120,000 patients received care across the Bravera Medical Group physician clinics, Bravera Primary Care, Bravera Obstetrics & Gynecology, Bravera Orthopedics, Bravera General Surgery and Bravera Urgent Care.
“We help people get well and live healthier by providing quality care for patients,” said Janine Kell, Chair of the Board of Trustees for Bravera Health Brooksville and Spring Hill. “Our community is truly fortunate to have this dedicated team of clinicians and caregivers here in Hernando County who are making a real difference each and every day.”
Bravera Health applies its resources to medical services, facilities and technologies that are important to patients. Access has been enhanced with the opening of a clinic in Spring Hill and the recruitment of Seth T. Purcell, M.D. means more vascular services here locally. The recruitment of two additional general surgeons, Ajmal Baig, M.D. and Jonathon Tsai, M.D. further enhanced access to surgical care. With their focus on the use of our robotic surgical system for less invasive surgeries patients are recovering faster and getting back to their lives sooner. At Brooksville, an intensivist program in the 12-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) led by Ramesh Donepudi M.D., MRCP ensures that patients continue to receive quality care with a dedicated ICU team. Capital improvements totaling more than $5.1 million were made to enhance services and improve quality of care and communication through updated equipment.
Bravera Health also gives back to Hernando County by providing over $116 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable. And the payment of $5 million in property and sales taxes helps support civic resources and services. Support for local charitable and community organizations such as Crescent Community Clinic and People Helping People, through financial donations and outreach. And to help fight hunger and to advance their purpose of helping people get well and live healthier, the hospitals held their first ever Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive this month, collecting and donating- 233 jars of nut butter to Jericho Ministries Food Barn and St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry to help address food insecurity.
The hospitals’ payroll of more than $68.5 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services. Last year the hospitals added enhanced benefits to help team members achieve their personal and professional goals, including assistance with student loan repayments,
reimbursement of licensure and certification expenses, as well as tuition reimbursement. Kell continued, “The vital care we provide is only one part of the broad impact we have. We are a cornerstone of this community and we are committed to doing all we can to provide excellent healthcare services and to making Hernando County a healthier, better community for all.”
And to ensure a strong healthcare workforce in the future, Bravera Health Brooksville and Spring Hill serve as teaching hospitals for Jersey College of Nursing. The Brooksville campus represents a joint effort by Bravera Health and Jersey College to address the nursing shortage throughout Hernando by training registered nurses to serve our community.
