Revision and Conversion Surgery
Some patients need revisions, corrections or conversions of their original bariatric operations for various reasons. Bariatric surgeons evaluate each situation and recommend the appropriate treatment. Revisions can almost always be accomplished with minimally invasive techniques—laparoscopically or robotically.
Band-Conversion Surgery
If an adjustable gastric band needs removal, weight regain is highly likely. A laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass may be a viable surgical option for patients who’ve experienced gastric band problems or who do not reach their weight loss goals.
Gastric Bypass Revision
If you initially experienced weight loss after your gastric bypass, but are now regaining weight, there are other options to consider. Your surgeon will review gastric bypass revision surgery with you.
